PNOC EC’s Application for Certification Precondition for COC 41 Endorsed for Approval

Taguig City (27 August 2019) – The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) endorsed for approval PNOC Exploration Corporation’s application for Certification Precondition (CP) for it Coal Operating Contract No. 41 (COC 41) located in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay. 

On 22 August 2019 at Davao City, the Commission en Banc of NCIP deliberated on PNOC EC’s application for CP with the presence of the leader representatives from the Council of Elders of the Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) of Subanen and Samal tribes. Upon thorough deliberation and verification from the ICC leaders of the veracity of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between them and PNOC EC, the Commission en Banc, under the Chairmanship of Col. Allen Capuyan (Ret.), endorsed the application for approval.

PNOC EC started the Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) process in October 2018. The COC 41 mine operations covers the Ancestral Domains of Malangas, Diplahan, Imelda, and Siay, all within the province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
